NCLEX and REx-PN retake date and attempt limits
Enter your last attempt and your board. See the earliest retake date and the attempt rules, each with its official source.
Choose your board and enter the date of your last attempt.
This tool gives a date to plan around. It is not a ruling from your regulator. Rules change, so confirm with your regulator before you pay to register again. We confirmed a rule on an official page for 55 of 58 US boards. For the rest, the tool says "check with your board".
The steps to retake
- Tell your regulator that you plan to retake. It tells you which fees or documents it needs.
- Register with Pearson VUE again and pay the exam fee.
- Wait for your new Authorization to Test.
- Book your appointment.
Use the wait to prepare
The 45 test-free days are study time. Start from your Candidate Performance Report. In Medibara, sit a topic mock on each area the report marks below the passing standard, then do the lessons on the topics you miss. Each lesson is a short video on one topic followed by questions in your exam's format, and Ask Cappy, the tutor, explains any rationale you are unsure of. Sit the full adaptive mock before your new date.
