Who pays the new fee
Every candidate who registers on or after 1 February 2027 pays the new fee. That includes first-time candidates, repeat candidates and nurses educated outside the United States and Canada. Your regulator charges its own application fee as well. That fee is separate and is not part of this change.
What a retake costs now
You pay the registration fee again for every attempt. You can retest 45 days after a failed attempt, up to eight times a year. Your regulator may set a lower limit.
What to do before the date
- Check your regulator's timeline. You need your eligibility before you can book a seat.
- Register before 1 February 2027 if you will be ready to sit the exam in that window.
- Do not rush an attempt to save US$150. A failed attempt costs you the fee and a 45-day wait.
